‘Girl to Woman’ is a body of work which captures seven different female bedrooms. The intentions of this project are to reflect how a girl constructs her bedroom, exploring not only their femininity but how their passions, experiences and aspirations are displayed within the restricted four-walled room.

Being inspired by photographer’s Petra Collins, Chloe Sheppard and writer Siân Lincoln, using their knowledge of girlhood and personal space as a way to develop my idea, capturing the space in a way where the room is a reflection of the girl. Continuing to develop on the concept of personal space, I expanded with growth, youth and the approach of womanhood. With this project being focused around females approaching their twenties I knew it would be important to involve myself in the project, as well as six to seven other girls giving the project a wide variety of differences.

Choosing to photograph on 35mm film allowed me to consider the visuals, it was an important choice as I really wanted to connect with each girl personally and I knew by condensing the number of images shot it would allow me to slow down and really consider what I wanted to reflect.
