A Collection by Shakira

I created this piece last August with a photography friend of mine, Danae. The whole inspiration for this photoshoot was to be elegant, feminine, soft and angelic. We shot this photoshoot at a lake near her house and I thought it was perfect because when I think of someone floating in a lake, I think of stillness and being calm and that was exactly what I wanted to portray in this photo.
You Can't Keep It In Anymore [Self portrait]
This photo is one of the most personal out of all my works. In this piece, I explore how some people hide their inner emotions in order to act strong because they are afraid of being vulnerable. In this piece, the first thing you notice is the eyes, I think that the eyes speak the most emotions, however I overlaid the image with another image of me screaming to show how bottling your emotions can cause you to suddenly burst. For the physical piece, I was inspired by Maurizio Anzeri's threading technique and used the thread to symbolise and amplify the emotions felt.
We’re Just High School Girls
This photoshoot was meant to be a part of my A-Level Art coursework but I never ended up submitting them. The theme of this shoot was to capture these group of school friends in the girls bathroom, candid, to show the intimate friendship that these girls have. I wanted the image to show a moment in time where girls would be sharing conversations about high school, drama and boys. This image is very close to my heart since I was able to do this photoshoot with my best friends and these photos were very real.
More Self Love
This photoshoot is very important to me and a lot of young girls out there. Self Love is something that is so hard to find and I personally struggle with it too. There are days where I am confident and days where I hate myself. This shoot was a reminder for not only myself, but for every young girl out there to remember that self love is so important. At the end of the day, all we have is ourselves and if we can’t learn to love ourselves, we will never be fully content. I shot these photos in my bathroom because I think that bathrooms share some of the most intimate conversations, especially as a high school student, most of the time whenever my friends and I would want to talk about something serious, we could go to the bathroom together to talk about it.
Girl Bo$$
The concept for this shoot was to shed light on self confidence and Asian beauty. I wanted my friend to portray this empowering, classy and sophisticated Asian woman that is confident in her own skin. I thought that styling her in a white blazer would emphasise the independent woman she is.
